We've often encountered people who are curious about how to safeguard their information, but find it too daunting a task. Many have expressed a desire to take control of their data, but aren't sure where to start. This is why we founded Nextcloud Hosting - to provide a secure and reliable solution for individuals and businesses to store their information, with a focus on serving the South African market.

I'm Toby Kurien, founder of Nextcloud Hosting.

I’m an electronics engineer and software specialist, and I’ve worked at some pretty cool places like IBM Research, Cambrient, and UEC Technologies. My jobs have taken me through all kinds of tech projects, from receiving internet over satellite, to mapping the prevalence of a pandemic in a city. I’ve used programming languages like Java, C++, and Python - basically, I speak fluent tech!

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve taken a different approach to technology. For starters, I’ve refused to add WhatsApp to my phone. Seriously, who needs another app that knows all my secrets? I’ve also ditched Gmail and Google Search, because I don't want my search engine judging my queries. And social media accounts? I’ve cut those out too! If I can’t control them, they can’t control me.

I’m all about mixing technology with a bit of rebellion. I’ve chosen an anti-consumerist lifestyle, which means I’m not just going along with what everyone else is doing. I like to experiment with new ideas and tech - think of me as a mad scientist, but instead of creating monsters, I’m building unconventional solutions and crazy DIY gadgets.

My biggest worry? Online privacy. It’s like trying to keep your diary safe when everyone wants to read it. That’s why I started Nextcloud Hosting - a private and secure cloud hosting service. My goal is to help people store, sync, and share their data without worrying about who’s watching. It’s like giving everyone their own digital safe while also trying to help with bigger issues around the world. So, if you’re looking for someone who knows their tech stuff and wants to help people take back control of their online lives, I’m your person. Just don’t ask me to join your group chat - I have a strict no-WhatsApp policy!

I'm Shelene Kurien, and I'm super excited to introduce myself as a co-founder of Nextcloud Hosting. Now, before we get into the serious stuff, let me share a little secret: being married to Toby for over 20 years has taught me a lot - especially about data security. Seriously, I decided to skip WhatsApp in my career, and it was a total win! Who needs group chats filled with complaints when you can enjoy some peace and quiet at home?

Data privacy became second nature for me. I mean, taking a clear phone on an international trip? No big deal! Who needs their information copied at border control, right?

I've spent the last 18 years working as a Facilities Manager at Gijima, where I learned how to deliver top-notch service and support. But my real passion? Helping people and businesses find secure and reliable storage solutions.

As a co-founder of Nextcloud Hosting, I’ve played a key role in shaping our vision and strategy. My goal is to make cloud storage easy and stress-free for everyone - because the only thing you should be focused on is growing your business or deciding whether to bring that extra pair of shoes for your next adventure!
